Zack Space is this weeks “Blue Dog of the Week”, an award bestowed by the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition on Representatives they feel are representing the belief of the group.

Statements from Blue Dog Communications Co-Chair Mike Ross and Rep. Space can be found after the jump.

“After the past six years of reckless deficit spending, Rep. Space has made the difficult decisions necessary to restore fiscal restraint to the federal government. As a member of the Blue Dog Coalition, he has demonstrated a firm commitment to the principles of fiscal responsibility and will undoubtedly continue to work to ensure that the government is accountable to the people.”

– Rep. Mike Ross (D-AR),
     Blue Dog Co-Chair for Communications

“My constituents know that I will do everything possible to protect their pocketbooks. I am honored that my Blue Dog colleagues have recognized that as well.  Making tough budgetary decisions is never easy, but we have already made great strides to restore fiscal responsibility to Congress.”

– Rep. Zack Space

So David, what do you think about this?

It would be much more informative if you, a liberal, told us, the readership, what you think about this. Oh by the way, please demostrate how SCHIP would dovetail into this award.

I’m not a big fan of financial matters but it makes sense not to spend money that you don’t have. The SCHIP bill, however, includes a plan on how to pay for it (a cigarette tax).

There’s also been studies done on the SCHIP program that show it actually saves money because of the decreased number of emergency medical expenses that the state gets stuck with. I’ll have to look it up again ( I know there’s a link at the old site), but I think it was something along the lines of $3000 saved per child.
