The Ohio Association of State and County Office Employees (OASCOE) has named Congressman Zack Space as it’s “Legislator of the Year”. The group, whose members include state and county level FSA and USDA employee’s, cites Space’s work incorporating local farmers concerns into the 2007 Farm Bill.

“FSA employees provide highly valuable services to farmers throughout my district and the nation. They make sure our farmers get the services they need, and they have been very helpful in providing the substance of the next Farm Bill.”

“When I came to Congress, I wanted to make sure I heard from agriculture in Southeastern Ohio.  That is why I immediately set out on my Farm Tour to listen to the issues and ideas of the farmers this bill would impact.  I am greatly honored that those efforts not only paid off in the 2007 Farm Bill, but that OASCOE has seen fit to honor those efforts with this wonderful award.”

– Rep. Zack Space

In somewhat related news, the increasingly confrontational President Bush is now threatening to veto the Farm Bill.
