A Good Op/Ed Piece On Space’s Greece Trip
Think that Greece doesn’t matter? Think again…
Rep. Zack Space has been unfairly criticized for joining a congressional envoy to Greece. Those attacking him don’t understand Greece’s importance as friends of the United States during the war on terror and are trying to score cheap political points. Did they forget that the American Embassy was attacked in Athens earlier this year? They believe the United States can fight the war on terror by itself. If Turkey decides to invade Iraq, Greece’s ports and location will become critical to the war in Iraq. Greece has donated military equipment and has worked to train the Iraqi Army so that they can defend themselves. It has worked with the United States to deny terrorist money laundering capabilities aboard. It takes real leadership to work with other countries to help solve our problems. I am glad that my congressman understands the need to make sure our allies stick with us and contribute more in the war on terror. Rep. Space isn’t going on a vacation; he is going on his delegation to get Greece to work with us in the war on terror.

This story has been blown way out of proportion but seems that at least some of Space’s constituency have managed to cut through the rhetoric.
