I haven’t heard anything about the Republican’s finances, but that pretty much says it all right there.

Now, I am continuing my involvement to seek to make this area of Ohio a better place to live, do business and raise a family.  Recently, I was named Vice President of the Board of Directors for Triple Cross Acres.  This new Christian ministry will serve at risk youth and physically challenged children through the use of horses.  My husband and I are also working with local organizations to bring a Miracle League baseball field to our community.

Professionally, my firm, Jeanette M. Moll LLC, is looking to expand the services we provide to our fellow residents of Southeastern Ohio.

Candidate Zack Space has released a statement (included below) on his overwhelming primary victory today.

The big story today though, is that we finally know who he’ll be running against. It looks like it’s going to be Fred Dailey. It’s definitely not who I would have thought, but I’ll have more on it in the coming days.

New Philadelphia, OH – Affirming Congressman Zack Space’s efforts to change Washington and change the daily lives of his constituents, the Democratic voters of the 18^th Congressional District provided Space an overwhelming victory in Tuesday’s Democratic primary election.

 

“I am truly overwhelmed by the response of the people of the 18^th Congressional District to my efforts to bring change to Washington and change in the lives on the people of my district,” said Space.  “Since Day One in office, I’ve fought with every ounce of my being to restore the trust of the people in their elected officials.  I’ve led the charge to clean up the House of Representatives and make sure that special interests’ lock on legislation is a thing of the past.  There is still much more to do, but I believe that we have made real progress in providing the transparency necessary to make sure that regular people are heard and that their government responds to them.”

Is U.S. Rep. Zack Space facing a tough race for re-election? Top leaders of the state Democratic and Republican parties weren’t so sure Thursday.

At a seminar hosted by The Associated Press, State Reps. Chris Redfern and Kevin DeWine were asked to list the most competitive congressional races in Ohio. Redfern, the state Democratic Party chairman, and DeWine, the GOP’s deputy chairman, listed four races in the Canton, Columbus and Cincinnati areas.

Space’s 18th District, which includes Muskingum and Coshocton counties, wasn’t on their list.

While it would be foolish to breathe a sigh of relief just yet, this news really doesn’t surprise me. The Republican Party has been short of cash recently and been forced to play defense in districts that they one had a firm hold on.

GOP co-chairman Kevin DeWine does say that:

“We haven’t taken it off the table. We have three fine folks who are running. We also know Zack has a significant financial advantage. We have to see what the race looks like once we get through the primary.”

Translation: We want to try to take this district but we don’t have the resources or a strong candidate yet.

Even more disturbing, here statement on the brief included the following line:

“The right to keep and bear arms is a fundamental God-given right. It’s our duty as Americans to ensure such rights are not infringed upon,”

Wait, what? A “God-given right”? Frankly, I doubt God cares one way or the other about us having guns I’ve also got to ask what’s with Moll continually trying to inject herself into national cases that have absolutely nothing to do with her? It’s pathetic.

Republican Fred Dailey, the former state agriculture director, had less than $51,000 on hand as of Dec. 31, according to the end of the year report he has filed with the Federal Elections Commission. But he also had loaned his campaign committee $30,000, according to the report.

Republican Jeanette Moll, meanwhile, had just over $43,000 on hand as of the end of the year, with a $10,000 campaign committee debt. The third main GOP contender in the 18th, Paul Phillips, had not yet filed his report this afternoon with the FEC, with the deadline midnight tonight. But as of Oct. 31, Phillips had less than $31,000 in his campaign coffers.

And Space? As of Dec. 31 he had nearly $756,000 in his campaign chest.

So basically, Space’s campaign has about $700,000 more cash on hand than their nearest competitor.

None of the Republican candidates have filled yet, but the deadline isn’t until 1/31.

So far the “I Back Zack” program has brought in $2,343 in donations from 31 different donors. In total ActBlue has raised $46,992 for the Space campaign.

Even more perplexing is Moll’s belief that any member of the board of directors for the Ohio Chapter of the ACLU who doesn’t condemn the brief should step down. If that’s the way things are done, then I’d like to issue a challenge to to her: Condemn all the recent scandals involving Republicans or abandon your run for Congress. Is that reasonable? Probably not, but apparently we’ve thrown reason out the window.

Just as I was about to click publish I noticed Plunderbund beat me to the punch. If you don’t buy into my reasoning that this is out of her area of jurisdiction go over there to see why this is still ridiculous.

Basically the program requires a person to pledge to pay an $8 donation each month for ten months (until election day) and in exchange the first 100 participants will get a T-shirt and an invite to a private reception. Not too bad for $80, especially when it goes to such a good cause.

I have the opportunity to serve the people of southeastern Ohio because my predecessor, who is now in jail, became the poster boy for the corruption and scandal that riddled the Republican Party.  He betrayed the trust of so many people and damaged our democracy.

In order to restore that trust, I have made it my mission to curb the influence that lobbyists have in Washington.  That is why:

• I led the charge to change the rules of the House of Representatives so that no Member of Congress can accept travel, gifts, or meals from lobbyists.

• I refuse to accept campaign contributions from lobbyists.

But, as we all know, change never comes easily. My opponents and their entrenched special interest backers are doing everything they can to hold on to power and maintain the status quo in Washington. They will spare no expense in that effort. In fact, they’ve already spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to drag my name through the mud.

While my opponents rely on the backing of big money lobbyists, I am relying on you.  If enough ordinary people band together, we can bring about meaningful change.

That is why I am announcing the “I Back Zack: $8 for Victory in ‘08” campaign and asking you to join me in the fight break the lobbyists’ grip on Washington.

All four Republican candidates bring impressive credentials, Spain said. Dailey was the director of the Ohio Department of Agriculture for 16 years in the Voinovich and Taft administrations, and Phillips was a lieutenant colonel after 20 years in the Air Force. Moll is a former magistrate for the Guernsey County Court of Common Pleas, and Bromberg is a Newark business manager.

It’s gonna be flying from all sides to get this seat back to Republicans. But as Zack has said, it doesn’t belong to them. It belongs to the people.
